Why it evolved
The repeated flooding and drying of the habitat makes staying in one place risky, favoring a more pelagic lifestyle. Increased buoyancy allows the Dart-Drifter to spend more time passively drifting in the open water, consuming plankton, and less energy on active swimming. This is advantageous under the Tethys Shallows' warm, open lagoon conditions. However, this increased size and reduced agility makes it more vulnerable to the Shoal-Hunter, a trade-off for greater habitat exploitation.
