Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information SpecEvo collects, why, and what we do with it. SpecEvo is a free, text-first speculative-evolution tool, and we try to collect as little as possible.

What we collect

• Your email address, if you sign in. We use it only to send the magic link that logs you in and to recognise your account.
• A username you choose, shown publicly on the worlds and creatures you create.
• Content you create: worlds, species, and the choices behind them. This is public by design and forms part of the shared tree of life.
• Limited technical data: a one-way hashed version of your IP address (we never store the raw address) to enforce fair-use limits and prevent abuse, plus a session cookie that keeps you signed in.
• Usage analytics: aggregate data about how the site is used (pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location from your IP), collected through Google Analytics to help us understand traffic and improve SpecEvo. See “Analytics” below.

How we use it

• To run the service: sign you in, save your worlds and creatures, and show them to you and others.
• To keep it fair and working: rate limits, spam and abuse prevention, and basic debugging.
• To understand and improve the site: aggregate analytics on which pages and features get used.
• We do not sell your data or build advertising profiles, and we do not use advertising cookies.

Who we share it with

We rely on a few service providers to operate, and share only what they need:

• Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in.
• Our hosting provider serves the site.
• Our AI provider (Google Gemini) receives the prompt inputs (the creature and pressure you pick, and your world's conditions) to generate each result. Please do not put personal or sensitive information into world or species text.
• Google Analytics receives usage data (via cookies) so we can see aggregate traffic statistics.

Cookies and local storage

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in, and your light or dark theme choice is stored locally in your browser. We also use Google Analytics cookies to measure how the site is used (see “Analytics” below). We do not use advertising cookies.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use SpecEvo — which pages and features are popular, and rough traffic numbers. It sets cookies and collects usage data such as the pages you view, your device and browser type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We use this in aggregate to improve the site, not to identify you personally. Google processes this data as described in its own privacy policy, and you can opt out across all sites with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

AI processing

Creatures and worlds are generated by an AI model. When you evolve or suggest something, the relevant inputs are sent to the AI provider to produce the result. Outputs are speculation, not fact.

Keeping and deleting your data

Your content stays as long as your account exists, since it is part of a shared tree others may have built on. To delete your account or specific content, email us at contact@specevo.com and we will take care of it.

Children

SpecEvo is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

We may update this policy as the product grows. The date above reflects the latest version.
