Why it evolved
The increased food availability allows for selection favouring larger individuals that can exploit the surplus more effectively. This leads to increased size and reproductive output. To better handle larger prey and the constant threat of similarly-sized or larger predators like the Dune-Treader, Dune-Gorgons evolve enhanced venom potency and slightly elongated pedipalps for grappling, allowing for faster kills. This specialization comes at the cost of increased metabolic demands, making them more vulnerable during lean times and potentially slower to burrow if their primary prey disappears.
