A world orbiting a stable K-type star, Scarred Expanse is a terrestrial planet with slightly higher gravity than Earth. Its atmosphere is thin, rich in nitrogen and argon, with only trace amounts of oxygen. Vast, arid continents dominate, punctuated by extensive mountain ranges and volcanic plains. Life primarily exists in the planet's few, shallow, hypersaline seas and in geothermally heated underground aquifers.

Why it evolved

The wildly unstable climate of the Scarred Expanse favors individuals that can survive extreme fluctuations. Enhanced dormancy allows the Resilient Siltworm to endure prolonged periods of aridity, a common challenge on this world. Its toughened cuticle offers protection against desiccation and potential predation from the Vent Bloomworm. A slightly accelerated reproductive rate ensures that the species can quickly re-establish populations when conditions briefly improve, a crucial strategy given the unpredictable nature of the environment and the higher gravity which makes larger size metabolically costly. The trade-off is a slightly higher energy requirement for cuticle maintenance and reproduction when active.
