Why it evolved
Facing intense competition for resources from a rival species, the Ripple Grazer's lineage has shifted its trophic role. Instead of competing directly for vegetation, selection has favored individuals that exploit the food source provided by the very competition: smaller animals and potentially even the rivals themselves (carrion). The resonance organ, once used for shockwave defense, is now employed for 'Resonant Lure' - a subtle vibration that mimics prey distress calls, drawing smaller creatures closer. This shift necessitates a change in body plan and locomotion to that of a predator, including a lower profile and silent movement, but the trade-off is a more precarious existence and reliance on a different, potentially less stable, food source than abundant plant life.
