Why it evolved
The pressure to form a mutualistic relationship has driven the evolution of specialized symbiotic gill structures on the tentacles, allowing for a close, interdependent association. This allows the Resonant Octopod to gain resources or protection from its partner, while offering its unique psionic dampening, which, in this new generation, has shifted to psionic amplification to better coordinate with its partner. The trade-off is increased vulnerability when separated from its symbiont, and a slightly higher energy cost to maintain the specialized structures, especially in the oxygen-variable shallows of JoJoLands.
