Why it evolved
The plentiful food sources in the Tethys Shallows, particularly the Tideweed Bloater's rapid reproduction and the general surplus of detritus, have driven selection for increased size and reproductive output in the Mudfish. This enhanced growth and fecundity allows the Tidewallow Gulpfish to exploit the surplus food more effectively, but it comes at the cost of higher energy demands and increased vulnerability to larger predators like the Mud-Stalker when resources are not as abundant, a boom-bust cycle exacerbated by the warm, shallow waters that can support rapid population growth.
