Vent-Symbiote Angler
Evo 6FishEats anythingSurfaceResilientShaped by π€ symbiosis
A small, pale fish with a dangling bioluminescent lure and an enlarged mouth, often found hovering near hydrothermal vents. Its internal tissues house even more potent chemosynthetic symbionts.

Why it evolved
The pressure to form a mutualistic relationship, potentially with a vent-dwelling organism, drives this descendant to adapt. The expansion of chemosynthetic symbionts and a larger mouth suggest a shift towards a more varied diet, possibly incorporating nutrients directly from vent fluid or from a symbiotic partner. Reduced gill surface is a trade-off made possible by the mineral-richer, potentially more oxygenated micro-environments near vents and the increased reliance on internal symbionts, fitting within the oxygen-poor conditions of Verglas's subsurface ocean.
