Why it evolved
The opening of new subterranean habitats favors a pioneering strategy. The Deep Silt Excavator diverges from its parent by specializing in excavation, allowing it to access richer detritus deposits and potentially prey on smaller burrowers, rather than relying on chemosynthesis. This specialization is enabled by the world's thin atmosphere and higher gravity, which may favor denser, more muscular burrowing forms over smaller, surface-reliant organisms. However, this increased specialization comes at the cost of the parent's enhanced dormancy and variable metabolic rate, making it less adaptable to extreme resource scarcity.
