Why it evolved
The intense competition for mates on Frosthearth has driven the evolution of elaborate bioluminescent displays in the Chthonic Hunter. These larger, more complex light organs, coupled with potentially more visually appealing, broader fins, serve as a primary signal for attracting partners. This shift towards visual mating signals comes at the cost of reduced sensory tendrils, as resources are redirected towards reproductive fitness, and a slight decrease in overall size, potentially to optimize energy expenditure for display and reproduction in the geothermally maintained, dark, and pressure-rich subterranean oceans.
