The Frosthearth
A planet orbiting a K-type orange dwarf star, significantly cooler than Earth. Its atmosphere is rich in nitrogen and carbon dioxide, with a lower oxygen content, leading to a denser, greenhouse-warmed atmosphere despite the cooler star. Liquid water exists primarily in subsurface oceans kept liquid by geothermal activity, with only small, ephemeral surface lakes and rivers in equatorial regions. Dominant habitat is subterranean, within vast cave systems and ocean trenches.

Chthonic Hunter
π Predator
A deep-sea predator adapted to the high-pressure, low-light subsurface oceans, using chemosynthesis to supplement its diet and bioluminescence to attract scarce prey.
Geothermal Pneume
π Cephalopod
A hardy cephalopod adapted to the crushing pressures and chemical energy sources of the Frosthearth's subsurface oceans. It uses bioluminescence to communicate and navigate in the perpetual darkness, supplementing its chemosynthetic diet with scavenged detritus.
All species (12)
- Chthonic HunterEvo 1A deep-sea predator adapted to the high-pressure, low-light subsurface oceans, using chemosynthesis to supplement its diet and bioluminescence to attract scarce prey.
- Geothermal PneumeEvo 1A hardy cephalopod adapted to the crushing pressures and chemical energy sources of the Frosthearth's subsurface oceans. It uses bioluminescence to communicate and navigate in the perpetual darkness, supplementing its chemosynthetic diet with scavenged detritus.
- Glimmering SirenEvo 2A deep-sea predator whose bioluminescent lure has evolved into a complex display, used to attract mates as well as prey in the dark, nutrient-scarce waters.
- Frosthearth SirenEvo 3A more robust, cold-adapted predator, the Frosthearth Siren has traded some of its dazzling bioluminescence for insulation and the ability to hunt by sensing the faint heat signatures of prey in the increasingly frigid subterranean waters.
- Abyssal SirenEvo 4The Abyssal Siren navigates the perpetual darkness of the deep, its eyes long since atrophied, relying instead on a symphony of senses to find prey.
- Haline LurkerEvo 5This predator has adapted to survive drastic salinity shifts by developing specialized organs to manage its internal fluid balance.
- Haline OverlordEvo 6This apex predator has grown in size and resilience to dominate the increasingly competitive geothermal vent fields.
- Haline ScavengerEvo 7No longer able to rely on active hunting, the Haline Scavenger has adapted to exploit dying organisms and detritus, becoming a more opportunistic feeder.
- Abundant Vent GrazerEvo 8This descendant has grown significantly larger, its body optimized for processing the abundant Geothermal Pneume that now dominates its food sources.
- Abyssal Vent StriderEvo 9A larger, more elongated predator adapted to stalk the soft, silty floors of deep cave systems away from the direct vent activity.
- Abyssal Vent StalkerEvo 10A larger, more robust predator that has capitalized on the increased resource availability, becoming more generalized in its hunting to take advantage of a wider array of prey.
- Vent ScavengerEvo 11A gaunter, slower creature, the Vent Scavenger has traded its former predatory prowess for the ability to subsist on whatever scarce organic matter it can find.
