A more robust, cold-adapted predator, the Frosthearth Siren has traded some of its dazzling bioluminescence for insulation and the ability to hunt by sensing the faint heat signatures of prey in the increasingly frigid subterranean waters.

Why it evolved
The sharp climate cooling driven by the pressure selects for traits that conserve heat and improve hunting in lower temperatures. The Frosthearth Siren develops a thicker blubber layer for insulation, a crucial adaptation for survival in the colder subterranean oceans of Frosthearth. Its metabolism slows to conserve energy, and it enhances heat-sensing pits to locate prey, such as the Geothermal Pneume, which are less visible as surface temperatures drop. This adaptation comes at the cost of reduced bioluminescence, making its mating displays less effective but improving its predatory efficiency.
