Abyssal Vent Strider
Evo 9PredatorEats animalsFloor / DepthsResilientShaped by ποΈ new frontier
A larger, more elongated predator adapted to stalk the soft, silty floors of deep cave systems away from the direct vent activity.
- Size
- 220 cm
- Diet
- carnivore
- Habitat
- deep cave systems and hydrothermal vent peripheries
- Moves by
- walking on soft sediment, with limited swimming capability
Why it evolved
The opening of new deep cave floor habitats, away from the direct heat of vents, favors diversification. This descendant develops elongated limbs for navigating the soft sediment, along with enhanced chemoreception to detect prey like the Geothermal Pneume in the low-light, nitrogen-rich environment. The trade-off is reduced metabolic efficiency compared to vent-specialized ancestors, and vulnerability to crushing pressures if it ventures too deep.
