Tethys Shallows

A warm, shallow inland sea under a yellow sun and Earth-like gravity. Tidal mudflats meet brackish lagoons; oxygen is plentiful in the water, scarce in the thick muck.

Why it evolved

Repeated flooding and rare dry ground on Tethys Shallows selected for a less buoyant, more streamlined form that can actively maneuver in shallowing waters. Elongated fins allow for efficient sculling close to the substrate, enabling it to graze on algae mats that thrive in these areas. This adaptation makes it less vulnerable to pelagic predators like the Shoal-Hunter but compromises its ability to drift passively and access open water plankton, and requires more energy expenditure for locomotion.
