Why it evolved
Relentless storms and high winds on Tethys Shallows favour individuals with adaptations for stability. This descendant has evolved a more flattened body and larger, stronger pectoral and dorsal fins, allowing it to anchor itself or swim more effectively in turbulent water, a crucial adaptation for survival in this dynamic habitat under the yellow sun. This increased stability comes at the cost of reduced maneuverability in calmer waters and a slightly smaller adult size, as energy is diverted to fin development and a less pelagic juvenile stage which would be vulnerable to being swept away.
