Why it evolved
The repeated flooding and receding of dry ground pressures the Brackish Glimmer-Ghast towards a more aquatic existence. This descendant, the Tidal Shifter, evolves developed gills to cope with the plentiful oxygen in the water, a world condition that also makes cutaneous respiration less critical. Its body elongates for better maneuverability in shifting water, and its pectoral fins become more powerful for faster swimming to escape the Tidewallow Gulpfish. The iridescence is reduced as camouflage in the mud becomes less important than speed. A trade-off is increased metabolic cost for swimming, making it more reliant on consuming smaller prey like the Mud-Stalker or Drought-Dweller.
