Why it evolved
To avoid predation from larger, more opportunistic generalists like the Famine Fins and Gulpfin, the Lagoon-Skimmer has evolved a significantly flattened body and reduced fins. This allows it to press itself more tightly into the substrate of the muddy lagoon floor, a habitat abundant in Tethys Shallows. This adaptation comes at the cost of reduced maneuverability in open water and increased energy expenditure for burrowing.
