Why it evolved
Facing heavy disease or parasite loads, selection favors individuals with stronger immune systems. To reduce transmission rates in the dense populations, a tendency towards more solitary behavior and reduced social contact evolves. Faster maturation also increases the chance of reproducing before succumbing to illness, a crucial advantage in the warm, pathogen-rich Tethys Shallows. A trade-off is a slightly smaller adult size due to energy being diverted to immunity rather than growth.
