Why it evolved
The sharp climate cooling incentivizes increased insulation and thermogenesis. The Cryo-Lumina Drifter develops a denser mesoglea, akin to the 'Thickened, less permeable integument' seen in the Osmotic Sentinel Drifter, to retain vital body heat in the increasingly cold JoJoLands ocean. Reduced bioluminescence is a metabolic trade-off to conserve energy, as generating light is energy-intensive, while enhanced internal heat generation, though costly, becomes necessary for survival in the lower temperatures. This adaptation also makes it a less attractive target for bioluminescent predators, but its reduced lure intensity may hinder prey attraction.
